The most common complaint heard from people who visit Negril Jamaica is not having enough time to do and see everything of interest. Although this Jamaican destination is relatively small, it provides a long list of activities, adventures, and explorations for you to enjoy while there. This is why conducting research and planning carefully prior to going is so important. By looking at the various opportunities, you can plan the trip of a lifetime based on your preferences.

While some visit Negril to relax on the famous Seven Mile Beach or snorkel in turquoise colored waters, others are more interested in hiking in the mountains, going to popular tourist attractions or perhaps heading out for deep sea fishing. The good news is that these are all viable options that can be enjoyed in and around the area. To provide a better understanding of the things that can be done in and around Negril, below are a few examples of the options available.

• Waterfalls – Jamaica is home to numerous cascading waterfalls. The best-known is the Dunn’s River Falls, which is in Ocho Rios, a two and one-half hour drive from Negril. For something closer, there is the refreshing YS Falls. This waterfall is 120 feet tall and because it resides on private property, the surrounding environment is unspoiled. Two additional waterfalls worth seeing include Discovery Falls, located just to the east of Negril and Mayfield Falls, which is about an hour away.

• Horseback Riding – This is an activity that can be enjoyed by individuals, couples or families. There are numerous farms and stables within a short drive from Negril that provide horses for riders of different skill levels. For instance, Chukka Blue provides guided horseback riding tours into the mountains, down by the sea or near ancient ruins.

• Ziplining – Zipping down a line over the rainforest canopy is a true adventure for anyone visiting Negril. One of the best is Canopy Zipline, which is about an hour outside of Negril but worth the drive. This zipline actually crosses over natural springs, a 150-year-old dam and the Great River.

• River Rafting / Tubing – Rafting and tubing are the ultimate adventures for people heading to Jamaica. Rafting trips will take you through lush vegetation with birds and beautiful flora and fauna. Depending on the rafting organization, some rafts are made from bamboos, while others are designed from more modern materials. Tubing is also an exciting activity that offers the chance for you to experience the jungle or rainforest regions close to Negril. For instance, Jungle River Tubing may be about an hour away but it has a solid reputation as one of the best in the country.

• Boating – In Jamaica, there are many different forms of boating and cruising but for something out of the ordinary, we suggest a river boat safari through water filled with crocodile.

• Dolphin Swims –Swimming with the dolphins is like something out of this world and this experience provides the opportunity for you to actually pet and sometimes feed dolphins. If you want to experience something like this, just 45 minutes away from Negril is Dolphin Cove, which sells packages not only for dolphins but also for shark encounters.

• Times Square Shopping Mall – This mall offers the ultimate shopping experience. In addition to the numerous gift and specialty shops, you will enjoy browsing high-end jewelry stores and relaxing at the on-site café. The Times Square Shopping Mall is centrally located, its design makes it easy to get around and it boasts many unique stores. One of the greatest benefits that can also be enjoyed is that many of the shops are duty free, which means huge savings for you.
