In Jamaica, reggae is king, and to experience some of the glory of this king, you have to check out Reggae Sumfest. Sumfest as it is affectionately called is Jamaica’s largest music festival and one of the biggest reggae music festivals in the world. Held at Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, the festival takes place each year during the 3rd week of July and is a series of events that should not be missed.

The weeklong festival is a staple in the Jamaican entertainment industry and is dubbed the Greatest Reggae Show on Earth. Each year, thousands of reggae, dancehall and overall music lovers flock to Montego Bay to catch the shows which have a new theme each night. Sumfest should be a must visit event for anyone who love reggae and music in general.

The festival normally kicks off with a Beach party, which features various DJs and sounds competing for the best performance, which is normally judged by the crowds. This is followed by a series of amazing concerts. Apart from the beach party, if you don’t have enough time to visit all seven events, Dancehall Night and the two International Nights are the most popular shows at the festival.

The popular Dancehall Night usually takes place on the fifth night of the festival and it usually features some of the most popular and influential acts in Jamaica’s dancehall sector proving their worth on stage. Some of the most popular artists that have been featured throughout the years include music veterans Bounty Killer, Beenie Man and Lady Saw.

On the international nights, patrons will have the chance to enjoy the best of roots, rock and reggae with an international headliner. The lineups consistently feature many of the top reggae artists, including artists like the legendary Bunny Wailer, Barrington Levy and Beres Hamond, king of lover’s rock. Some of the international artists that have performed at the festival include Flo Rida, Busta Rhymes and R Kelly.
