Ricks Café

Opened in 1974 on the West End Cliffs in Negril, Ricks Café is one of Jamaica’s most famous tourist attractions and local hot spots. Rick’s is a great place to spend the day and it is one of the most popular places to dine and enjoy some of the best sunsets in the world. Rick’s Cafe has received several awards throughout the years including, the “Best Caribbean Live Reggae Bar” and the “Best Caribbean Sunset” by Caribbean Travel and Life Magazine.

The main attraction at Rick’s is the cliff jumping opportunities that it offers. Due to the unique location of the cafe, visitors normally have the opportunities to enjoy jumps from 10 to 30 ft off the cliff into the Caribbean Sea. This makes it one of the best cliff diving spots in Jamaica and it is highly recommended for more adventurous souls.

Apart from its cliff jumping opportunities, Rick’s is a place like no other. The cafe features a bar, a restaurant, an infinity pool, a souvenir boutique, lounge deck, and amazing views of the beautiful sea. Ricks Café also offers music shows that feature live reggae bands performing throughout the week. To add to its thrilling experience, Rick’s has a Caribbean rope swing.

To complete its offerings, the restaurant at Rick’s Cafe offers an extensive menu to accommodate any taste. The menu includes items like steak, pasta, seafood and all types of chicken. The drink menu is also quite expansive. When the sun goes down the cool lounge comes alive and is complemented by the endless Caribbean Sea. Dining on the cliffs by moonlight is a cool feature that can be enjoyed by couples. The Cafe is open all day, every day and it is a great place to spend an afternoon or to hang out in the evenings.

Reggae Sumfest

In Jamaica, reggae is king, and to experience some of the glory of this king, you have to check out Reggae Sumfest. Sumfest as it is affectionately called is Jamaica’s largest music festival and one of the biggest reggae music festivals in the world. Held at Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, the festival takes place each year during the 3rd week of July and is a series of events that should not be missed.

The weeklong festival is a staple in the Jamaican entertainment industry and is dubbed the Greatest Reggae Show on Earth. Golf at Its Finest in Negril Jamaica

Golf is a sport played by millions of men, women, and children. For some, it is more of a leisurely pastime, while for others the sport is a fierce form of competition. No matter how well you can play, spending time on a golf course in Negril, Jamaica is the ultimate experience. After all, the surrounding landscape is breathtakingly beautiful and makes the game much more attractive.

In addition to the immaculate greens and beautiful vegetation, most courses have gorgeous views of the beaches in the distance. With this in mind, there are several golf courses throughout Jamaica with impressive views, but specific to Negril, the Negril Hills Golf Club has quickly gained a solid reputation for being one of the best. This course is nestled in the midst of lush Caribbean vegetation. Negril Hills Golf Club’s other unique features include several challenging water hazards and sand traps, as well as the raised tees and greens.

Professionally designed by Robert Simmons in 1994, this particular course is known for being tough but it also makes play much more enjoyable. The Negril Hills Golf Club is designed with 18 holes that stretch over 6,333 gorgeous yards. This is also a par 72 course with both a putting green and driving range which makes it ideal for anyone who want to work on that swing.

Now, golfers with low handicaps might appreciate a different course but for the most part, the Negril Hills Golf Club is a good, all-around place to play. Although commonly used by experienced golfers, anyone is welcomed. In fact, it is common for novice golfers to visit the club just to practice putting or driving opposed to actually playing a partial or full round.

In addition to this, you can always use your own golf clubs or if preferred, rent or purchase clubs from the onsite state-of-the-art pro shop. There is also a modern clubhouse for relaxing after a round of golf and a first-class restaurant on-site that serves authentic Jamaican cuisine. If one or more members of your group do not golf, Negril Hills Golf Club also features perfectly maintained tennis courts, also with incredible views.

Being less than two miles from the heart of Negril, this golf course is extremely convenient. Many locals prefer this location but it is also popular among tourists. For your convenience, reputable accommodations are within a short drive. For example, there are a number of quaint bungalows, ocean-side cottages, four and five-star hotels as well as lavish resorts, all within a few minutes of the golf course.

Since, golf is a popular pastime and sport in Jamaica, in addition to the Negril Hills Golf Club there are many other options close by, including several hotels with their own golf courses.

Attractions of Interest In and Around Negril Jamaica

The most common complaint heard from people who visit Negril Jamaica is not having enough time to do and see everything of interest. Although this Jamaican destination is relatively small, it provides a long list of activities, adventures, and explorations for you to enjoy while there. This is why conducting research and planning carefully prior to going is so important. By looking at the various opportunities, you can plan the trip of a lifetime based on your preferences.

While some visit Negril to relax on the famous Seven Mile Beach or snorkel in turquoise colored waters, others are more interested in hiking in the mountains, going to popular tourist attractions or perhaps heading out for deep sea fishing. The good news is that these are all viable options that can be enjoyed in and around the area. To provide a better understanding of the things that can be done in and around Negril, below are a few examples of the options available.

• Waterfalls – Jamaica is home to numerous cascading waterfalls. The best-known is the Dunn’s River Falls, which is in Ocho Rios, a two and one-half hour drive from Negril. For something closer, there is the refreshing YS Falls. This waterfall is 120 feet tall and because it resides on private property, the surrounding environment is unspoiled. Two additional waterfalls worth seeing include Discovery Falls, located just to the east of Negril and Mayfield Falls, which is about an hour away.

• Horseback Riding – This is an activity that can be enjoyed by individuals, couples or families. There are numerous farms and stables within a short drive from Negril that provide horses for riders of different skill levels. For instance, Chukka Blue provides guided horseback riding tours into the mountains, down by the sea or near ancient ruins.

• Ziplining – Zipping down a line over the rainforest canopy is a true adventure for anyone visiting Negril. One of the best is Canopy Zipline, which is about an hour outside of Negril but worth the drive. This zipline actually crosses over natural springs, a 150-year-old dam and the Great River.

• River Rafting / Tubing – Rafting and tubing are the ultimate adventures for people heading to Jamaica. Rafting trips will take you through lush vegetation with birds and beautiful flora and fauna. Depending on the rafting organization, some rafts are made from bamboos, while others are designed from more modern materials. Tubing is also an exciting activity that offers the chance for you to experience the jungle or rainforest regions close to Negril. For instance, Jungle River Tubing may be about an hour away but it has a solid reputation as one of the best in the country.

• Boating – In Jamaica, there are many different forms of boating and cruising but for something out of the ordinary, we suggest a river boat safari through water filled with crocodile.

• Dolphin Swims –Swimming with the dolphins is like something out of this world and this experience provides the opportunity for you to actually pet and sometimes feed dolphins. If you want to experience something like this, just 45 minutes away from Negril is Dolphin Cove, which sells packages not only for dolphins but also for shark encounters.

• Times Square Shopping Mall – This mall offers the ultimate shopping experience. In addition to the numerous gift and specialty shops, you will enjoy browsing high-end jewelry stores and relaxing at the on-site café. The Times Square Shopping Mall is centrally located, its design makes it easy to get around and it boasts many unique stores. One of the greatest benefits that can also be enjoyed is that many of the shops are duty free, which means huge savings for you.
